Drastic software and hardware products support a wide variety of camera raw devices, from standard files like DNG/cDNG, through esoteric files like fhgDI, to new and emerging formats like MLV. This article lists the supported raw files type, and which Drastic software they work best in.
Raw Camera Formats
The Arri D21, Alexa and Amira cameras record raw sensor data to their own *.ari series of still images.
BlackMagic camera b-raw capture raw file formats.
Drastic supports both previewing and conversion of this format.
The Codex ActionCAM supports direct raw output/capture to Codex capture devices in cdx raw format. Drastic supports both previewing and conversion of this format.
Cine raw files are produced by Vision Research's Phantom series of cameras: HD, Gold, Flex, Miro, 4kFlex, etc. All these camera files are support by Drastic software, including full RGB as well as bayer. Metadata is extracted to be used for the conversion back to RGB.
Cinema DNG files are DNG files that contain raw bayer pattern images recorded directly from the camera's CCD/imager. These files are produced directly by a number of cameras including the Blackmagic 2.5k and 4k cameras. They are also conversion targets for a number of cameras including OneCam, a-Cam and Canon cameras enabled with the Magic Lantern firmware.
The Wiesscam camera with a digiback captures its video as a series of images. Drastic software supports some of these formats, including the fghDI format for playback.
The Magic Lantern firmware has a new supported file format for raw bayer that includes a lot more metadata, audio and general structure. The Magic Lantern Video (MLV) format can be played in some Drastic software and will soon be fully supported for display, editing and conversion.
MOV - CineForm RAW
CineForm RAW is a lightly compressed raw bayer image series in an MOV wrapper. This format is fully supported for preview, conversion and real time playback.
MOV - v210 RAW
The IndieCam camera records raw bayer video, and then repackages it to send it to a 10 bit YCbCr recorder. The data in the stream is actually raw bayer, but by using the SDI standard, most records can capture the signal. When playing back the QuickTime MOV, the identifier will be that of YCbCr 10 bit. Drastic software has a config variable (IndieCamV210) that can be set to automatically interpret the data properly as raw bayer for display or conversion.
MXF - Sony Raw F65
The Sony F65 records raw bayer as a lightly compressed stream in the MXF format. Drastic software supports the F65 MXF file format and compression using Sony's high quality codec.
RAW - IOIndustries
IOIndustries make a series of high speed cameras with 2K or 4K sensors, and matching DDR capture boxes that record the sensor data in a *.raw file. These files can be 8, 10, 12 or more bits of bayer pattern, and are directly compatible with Drastic software.
RAW - Magic Lantern
The Magic Lantern firmware is an alternate firmware for many Canon DSLR cameras. It enhances and expands the basic operation of the camera, and it also allows capture of the raw bayer output of the sensor. The result is saved in a custom RAW format, or MLV (Magic Lantern Video) format, which may also be converted to DNG.
Red camera raw is a lightly compressed ray bayer capture. Drastic software supports Red cameras through their SDK.
RMF files are the native raw file of the Canon C500. These are raw 10 bit samples from the camera sensor with a specific LUT to allow for better low and high light performance. These files are fully supported by Drastic software.
The SI2K camera supports recording the raw bayer output of one or two cameras, for 3D shoots, as a single raw SIV sequence. Drastic supports both previewing and conversion of this format.
The Panasonic Varicam supports direct raw output/capture to Codex capture devices in v-raw format. Drastic supports both previewing and conversion of this format.
