How to License Drastic Products

chip licDrastic's software products install and will run in demo mode, with a number of restrictions (10 second media duration, watermarks, length of run limitations).  For testing, we recommend getting a temporary license, which uses the same process as getting your permanent license once you have purchased the software.  In both cases, you will need to:

  • Run the license application installed with your software
  • Put your name and email address into it and press generate
  • Email the site code created to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., with what you are requesting (perm/temp, which software)
  • Once we have emailed you back your site key, copy it into the license application and click register

Licensing Drastic Software

To license any Drastic software on a temporary or permanent basis, you will need to run the license application.  That application can be found:

Windows 32

Start Menu | All Programs | <Drastic Software Name> | License <Software Name>

The Licensing application will look something like the following:

Windows - MediaNXS

In MediaNXS, the licensing is built into the application. Run MediaNXS, click on the Setup tab and select Licensing (or you can use the main menus, under Operations | Setup | Licensing. The tab should look something like this:NXS licensing      

Type your first and last name and email address, then press the the Generate button. This populates the Site Code field. Press the Copy button (or select the code and Ctrl + C).  Paste the code into an email. Please specify which software you are licensing and whether it is for a trial or a purchased software.

We will generate a Site Key and email it back to you.  Copy the site key from your email and paste it into the Site Key field.  Click the Register button to register the software.  Restarting the license application will enable the new license status. The button at the lower left toggles between displaying the license dialog, and displaying the Status of the license. Here is a Status field, with a temp license in place:

Linux 64 Command Line Licensing

Linux installs of Drastic software include a command line app called ddrsetup.  This can be used to license your system if a GUI is not available (headless, remote, cloud, etc).  Run ddrsetup with your username and license: 

./ddrsetup -l -n "Joe Smith" -e "This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it."

This will output the site code that can be emailed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  When you receive the Site Key, it can be applied as follows:

./ddrsetup -l -n "Joe Smith" -e "This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it." -r "<the text of the site code>"

The license status can be checked with 

./ddrsetup -l
